About Us

AlmaCube is the incubator and innovative hub of the University of Bologna. We aim to foster the economic growth of the region through innovation and by the creation of new businesses. Furthermore, AlmaCube focusses on successful collaborations with established companies, and on facilitating the education of new generations towards a more entrepreneurial approach.


Established in 1999, Almacube is a non-profit Ltd. recognized as a certified incubator by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development. In 2017, Almacube renewed in its organizational structure and since that time is has been included in the strategic plan of the University of Bologna 2021, which aims at becoming the main Italian University for the development of startups and spin-offs. AlmaCube operates  with the support of two main partners: Confindustria Emilia Area Centro, shareholder of Almacube, and Intesa Sanpaolo.

The University is represented, in 5 different sites (Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini), by a community of over 100.000 people, made up by students, professors and researchers and technical administrative personnel. With over 11.000 research products every year, the University of Bologna is the number one University in Europe in attracting international students. Its network and collaborations include leading companies both in Europe as well as worldwide, with which it collaborates. According to a recent study conducted by Adecco (2017), Bologna hosts the highest number of talents in Italy (26th on a worldwide scale).

Confindustria Emilia Area Centro

It is the association that gathers more than 3000 small, medium and big leading companies, situated in Bologna, Modena and Ferrara. Confindustria Emilia Area Centro is the most important business network in the region, and it supports the entrance of new startups and spin-offs in the market.

Intesa Sanpaolo

As the absolute leader in Italy (11.5 millions of clients) and amongst the most important banks in Europe (7.5 millions of foreign clients). Intesa Sanpaolo is known for its significant support in developing innovations and creating new businesses.

Our Approach

The University of Bologna, international since history, has established partnerships all over the globe. We educate future innovators to adopt a global approach, by facilitating new experiences abroad and by providing opportunities in Italy for foreign talents that distinguish themselves in developing innovations.

Multidisciplinary - Innovative enterprises arise when different competencies and experiences are brought together. Consequently, Alma Mater adopts a multidisciplinary approach by facilitating interactions between students, researchers and professors from various academic fields. As a result, we educate future innovators to develop transversal abilities.

 

Pragmatic - Almacube has a lean and fast structure, which strives to accelerate the development of entrepreneurship and innovation within the University of Bologna. We aim to ease to process of entrepreneurship, and we ensure an efficient and rapid link between one of the biggest and most prestigious Italian universities and the outside world.
