Almacube on the Israeli Military Escalation in Gaza and the Guidelines of the Academic Senate

As a certified incubator and innovation hub of Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, Almacube embraces and upholds the principles expressed in the two recent resolutions of the Academic Senate, dated 17 June and 23 September 2025, concerning the situation in Gaza and relations with Israeli universities, companies, and institutions.

The two resolutions of the University of Bologna

The 17 June 2025 Resolution: Condemnation of the Military Escalation in the Gaza Strip
In this first resolution, the Academic Senate condemns the Israeli military escalation in Gaza and the severe humanitarian and civilian consequences of the conflict, reaffirming:

  • the violation of international law and human rights in Palestinian territories,

  • the need to support diplomatic and political initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire,

  • the importance of promoting a culture of peace and international cooperation.

The University highlights its role in fostering dialogue, independent research, and educational pathways that contribute to a critical understanding of conflicts and their implications.

The 23 September 2025 Resolution: Criteria for Collaborations with Israeli Institutions
The second resolution establishes a clear framework regarding agreements and relations with Israeli universities, companies, and institutions. It introduces:

  • the suspension of new institutional collaborations,

  • the rigorous assessment of ongoing projects to exclude dual-use applications and ensure exclusively civilian purposes,

  • a commitment to promoting academic and scientific initiatives oriented toward peace, cooperation, and the strengthening of educational systems in areas affected by the conflict.

Almacube’s Commitment within the Framework of the Principles Expressed by Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna

In alignment with the University, Almacube adopts these principles as a compass to guide its activities, partnerships, and innovation programs.

In particular, we commit to:

• Evaluating collaborations according to ethical and socially responsible criteria
Any new initiative, project, or partnership that may involve Israeli organisations in any capacity will be subject to prior approval by the Board of Directors, which will assess its appropriateness on a case-by-case basis, providing—if necessary—guidance for risk mitigation or, in more critical cases, recommending the suspension of relations.

• Promoting a culture of peace within our community
Startups, students, researchers, and companies are essential components of an ecosystem that can contribute to building a more peaceful and sustainable future.

• Supporting projects that encourage dialogue, international cooperation, and educational reconstruction
In line with the University, Almacube is committed—within the scope of its role—to contributing to initiatives that strengthen research and education in areas affected by the conflict.

The resolutions of the Academic Senate represent a clear and responsible stance by the University of Bologna.
Almacube reaffirms its commitment to promoting innovation that places not only technological and economic progress at its core, but also human rights, equity, and cooperation.
